  • Lunch France From Inside

Moments away from enjoying a wonderful lunch at Chateau Pitray in the small dinning room. A 3 hour bike ride will enhance one's appetite and taste buds ... even the green beans look good.

Checking it out from another angle, jockeying for a good seat, though there really is not a bad seat in the house. Looks delicious doesn't it?

    Desert France From Inside

Oh ... wow ... what do we have here! It makes the first part of the meal that much better when you know how it all ends. Patience my friends, patience.

    Fini lunch

Ah, the pillage and plunder is fini ... and rest assured it was as good as it looks. Lets do a quick post meal review: wine gone ... check, pate gone ... check, etc ... but the green beans are mostly still there. Lets face it the green beans always have a very poor "work/preparation to enjoyment ratio." We have to accept the evidence before us (especially tough to do for you Birthers out there), even in France.

Saint Emilion France From Inside bike tours

The village of Saint Emilion seen from the top of the gothic church tower. It is really high up, apparently the highest point in the Bordeaux area. People like to say that on a clear day you can see ... yada, yada ,yada. This picture looking south.

Now back at home, Chateau Pitray, the winery to the right and the vineyards above.

These are oversized wine barrels, with 450 liters instead of 250 liters. Inside the belly of the beast ... the winery.

In France we don't bob for apples, we bob for wine.

Oak wine barrels are not cheap, at an average cost of $700 each. Too bad they only last 2 years before needing to be replaced.

This is where my bike lives in France in the summer, down in the basement of the chateau.
