Meals: France the Epitomy of Great Food
The cost of the Alps cycling trip includes all of the breakfasts, dinners, and the riding food stocked in the van, plus the quick picnic lunch on the road. ( Note: lunch and dinner on the 2 rest days are not included ).
Ha, and this is only the appetizer!
Dinner is usually at the hotel's restaurant, otherwise a village restaurant. It's hard to beat the food in France, and the Alps is no exception. Thankfully, the primary reputation and one of the great attractcions of France is their cuisine. Typically dinners on this trip include a salad, an entrée, a main dish, cheese and desert. Obvioulsy as hungry cyclists the volume of calories is just as important the quality. Rest assured we eat well and we eat plenty.
Whenever we eat at a restaurant that serve, pizzas I'll order several or more for the table to share, just so everyone can calm their hungry stomachs while they wait for their personal orders.
The breakfasts are served at the hotels we stay in. In France breakfasts usually only consist of drinks ( coffee, tea, juice ) served with toast, cereal, yogurts, pastries, sometimes cold cuts, cheeses, usuall a buffet all you can eat. Some hotels have better breakfasts than others. You won't go hungry, but you are not going to find the traditional omelets and pancake breakfasts that you are used to in America.
During the ride the van will be stocked with riding food: water, a variety of cold soft drinks, bars, fruit, things that are quick and easy to consume to keep you fueled for the day's ride. There is also bread, cold cuts, cheese, etc... for our picnic lunch. Note "fresh" bread for sandwiches will be purchased daily from a local bakery for lunch.
On the two rest days you will be responsible for your own lunch and dinner.
