Chateau de Pitray and the TDF

The TDF 2025!

- Waiting on the route declaration

The north facade of the chateau. The old roof has yet to be replaced (2015), and the steps on the roof for access and maintenance are visible. On the new roof these steps have been removed. The slate tiles are also visibly weathered.

Chateau de Pitray

Chateau de Pitray is a part of the commune of Gardegan-Tourtirac, several miles north of the town of Castillon la Bataille along the Dordogne river. Pitray is located on the eastern edge of the Gironde department, in the southwest of France, east of the city of Bordeaux at about 35 miles. Pitray is part of the Bordeaux wine region, in the wine applelation of Cotes de Castillon, just east of the appelation of Saint Emilion, which is classified as a World Heritage site by Unesco.

I think you will agree with me that it has a majestic and secluded feel. A unique and important quality of Pitray is that the vineyards are planted on the outskirts of the property so as to preserve the serenity of the immediate surrounds of this great home. During your stay we intend to greet you as we do our friends and personal guests. You will enjoy a private room, dine on meals prepared by the family cook, drink Pitray wine of course, the swimming pool, a tour of the winery by a member of the family, and the pleasure of relaxing anywhere on the property.

The south facing facade and the new roof. If you are a home owner than you know the never ending "home-maintenance projects," and replacing the 115 year old roof was a major undertaking. So yes it is a thing of pride and relief and celebration, and of course a strong dose of youth injected into the chateau.

The south facing facade of the chateau, in the early fall as the vines that climb the walls present their fall colors. Again, another picture prior to the restoration of the roof.
