The "topo-map" view of stage 10.

Yes, today you are retracing your footsteps from Stage 2. This is the one section of the tour where you will ride a part of the course in both directions. The repeat, in the opposite direction, is the Col de Soulor and the Col d'Aubisque. Here you will get to climb what you had descended and descend what you had climbed back on day 2 of the Tour. It's the only opportunity to do both sides of any of the climbs on the entire trip. And there are also 2 new climbs, the Col de Marie-Blanc and the Col de Ichere, both featured in the 2020 Tour de France.

And the corresponding profile of stage 10.

As you cut across the granite face from the Col de Soulor to the Col d'Aubisque you can see clearly the other road that climbs to the Soulor. Maybe some day you might come back to climb it? Personally, in the year 2000 this was the very first climb I ever did in the Pyrenees.  The rest is history!

The valley that runs up to the base of the Col de Soulor. This time around you can examin it more thoroughly. On Stage 2 you were descending in the opposite direction at a high speed and concentrating on bike handling.

Overview of the first 4 stages of the tour, from Biarritz (on the Altantic Coast) to Collioure (on the Mediterranean sea).  The black line represents the border of France and Spain.  Day 2 includes the Col d'Aubisque in the beginning of the day.

These are the 8 stages returning from the Mediterranean sea to the Atlantic, all in the high mountains.  Again the black line is the French/Spanish border
