The last stage of the tour. It's both an elation and a certain heartache. You've accomplished one of the most memorable biking tours possible, ridden 1000+ miles and 100,000+ feet, from the Atlantic ocean to the Mediterranean sea and back. However, you've also come to a fantasy way of life, riding your bike everyday up and down historic roads, over mountain passes you've seen in the Tour de France, eating and drinking tasty French cuisine and wines. Somehow it has to go on! You'll have to come back again. Savor the day and we'll celebrate the trip on our last night together.

And the corresponding profile of stage 12.

Ah, the sag-wagon, always at the top of the climbs to service your thirst and hunger. Without this support no one can do this trip.

The Pyrenees are beautiful and offer what I consider the best cycling in the world. Sure there are other spectacular places to ride, but there isn't anywhere better.

Overview of the first 4 stages of the tour, from Biarritz (on the Altantic Coast) to Collioure (on the Mediterranean sea).  The black line represents the border of France and Spain.  Day 2 includes the Col d'Aubisque in the beginning of the day.

These are the 8 stages returning from the Mediterranean sea to the Atlantic, all in the high mountains.  Again the black line is the French/Spanish border
